Project View

The Project View screen of the Project Configuration Wizard controls which P3 projects are shown when you use the Open Project dialog box. An example of the Open Project dialog box is shown below. The example shows P3 project groups which have a planning unit of Hour as enabled. Project groups which do not have a planning unit of Hour and member projects can either be shown as greyed out or hidden altogether using the Project View screen of the Project Configuration Wizard. In this example, they are shown but are greyed out. See the last section for instructions on how to change these settings.

Project Groups and Member Projects

In Primavera P3, projects are organised into Project Groups and projects (sometimes called member projects or subprojects). A member project uses the resources from the project group.

When Weavecentrix Desktop transfers work orders to Primavera P3 projects, it also creates resources in P3 which represent work centres, components and PRTs. These have to be created in the P3 Project Group. Because of this restriction by P3, Weavecentrix Desktop is restricted to working with P3’s project groups.

P3 Project Planning Units

When you create a Primavera P3 project, you specify a planning unit for this project. The default planning unit for a Primavera P3 project is Day. However, the default planning unit used in SAP is Hour. Weavecentrix Desktop eases the process of transferring work orders from SAP to Primavera P3 projects by filtering for P3 projects which have Hour as their planning unit.

Changing which Projects are Visible in the Open Project Dialog Box

The checkbox marked "Show subprojects in the Open Projects dialog box" is set to unchecked by default. This means that only project groups will be shown in the Open Projects dialog box. Checking this box will make the subprojects visible but they will appear greyed out and you will not be able to select them.

The checkbox marked "Show projects which don’t have a planning unit of hours in the Open Projects dialog box" is set to unchecked by default. This means that only projects with a planning unit of Hour will be shown in the Open Projects dialog box. Checking this box will make the project groups with other planning units visible but they will appear greyed out and you will not be able to select them.
