The use of the Project Calendar in Primavera P3 is important to the scheduling of resources. You use it to determine the length of the working day and which days are working days.
For new projects which have Hour as the planning unit, Primavera P3 will set up your project calendar as having continuous work time. In most cases, this isn’t what you intended and can cause problems when scheduling and, especially, when resource levelling.
The Project Calendar screen of the Project Configuration Wizard controls the display of a warning dialog when you are transferring work orders from SAP to Primavera P3. When you start your transfer, Weavecentrix Desktop looks at your Primavera P3 project and checks to see if you have changed your project calendar. Specifically, it looks to see if you have set the work-time and work-days. If you haven’t, it will give you a warning, advising you that you haven’t updated the project calendar.

In the case where you do want to have a continuous work-time – a major shut, for example – you would not want this warning to appear every time you transfer work orders between SAP and your Primavera P3 project. The Project Calendar screen of the Project Configuration Wizard is where you can turn this warning off.
To turn the project calendar warning off, uncheck the checkbox.
The project calendar warning is on by default.
Primavera P3 has a number of calendars: base, resource and a global calendar. Each project has a global calendar and at least one base calendar. The global calendar lets you specify non work periods, any exceptions to non work periods, and holidays for the entire project and all of its resources.
Calendar 1 is the default base calendar which Primavera P3 assigns to all of its activities and resources. You can change Calendar 1 but you cannot delete it. You can add other calendars to the project and specifically assign a calendar to activities or resources.
Driving resources determine the remaining duration for activities which they are assigned to. Primavera P3 schedules the remaining work of meeting and independent activities using the calendars of their driving resources. It schedules work for activities of other types using the base calendar of the activity which is Calendar 1 by default. It ignores resource calendars for non driving resources.
You cannot modify base calendars in a project that is part of a project group; make all changes at the project group level. All projects in the group share the project group calendars.
You can’t change the base calendars in a Primavera P3 project that is part of a project group. You have to change the base calendar at the project group level. All projects in the group share the project group calendars.
