Activity Code Updates

The Activity Codes Updates screen of the Mapping Wizard controls whether Weavecentrix Desktop warns you if it is going to make any structure updates to Primavera P3’s activity code dictionary.

A structure update to the Primavera P3 activity code dictionary is where a new activity code is created or an existing activity code is removed.

images\warning.gif Note that, in the case of a removal, this is not the activity code value assigned to the activity but the activity code definition itself. The implication of this is that, when you remove an activity code definition, all the activity code values and each of their assignments to activities are removed as well.

When you do your first transfer to a Primavera P3 project and you have indicated that you want some SAP work order fields set up as P3 activity codes, Weavecentrix Desktop first looks at the available space in the Primavera P3 activity code dictionary. The available space and the way that it does this are explained in the section Maximum Number of Activity Codes in Primavera P3.

If there is sufficient space, it will just add the activity codes as shown in the example at the start of this section.

If there is not enough space to add all the activity codes, it looks at the existing activity codes in P3 and select the first it comes to that has not already been mapped. It then flags this activity code for deletion. For a new project, this is usually one of the Default Primavera P3 Activity Codes.

For an existing project, however, it may be an activity code that is in use.

The Activity Code Update warning gives you the opportunity to review these updates to the P3 Activity Code Dictionary and determine if the proposed updates are OK. If they are not, you can click on the No button and stop the transfer. You can then take the opportunity to go into Primavera P3 and manually remove activity codes which are not required, making space for the mapped activity codes which will be created in the transfer.

You can turn off this warning by uncheck the checkbox marked "Warn me every time Weavecentrix Desktop updates the activity code definitions in a Primavera P3 project’s dictionary".

images\tip.gif It is not recommended that you turn off the Activity Code Update warning if you are importing SAP work orders into an existing P3 project where you have manually set up activity codes. During a transfer, you could delete important project information which you have stored in a manually created activity code. However, if you leave the Activity Code Update warning turned on, you get a chance to review the changes before any updates happen.
